Kathy Paulo-Hirai, daughter
of one of Hawaii’s legendary musical artists, Rene Paulo and Akemi, sister to
jazz saxophonist, Michael Paulo, is a seasoned performer who has had many years
of experience in the performing arts here in the islands as well as abroad
across the continental US and international venues. She earned her
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama and Theater from the University of Hawaii and
Masters of Education from Chaminade University. Music, dance and drama
have been a lifelong passion and she has had numerous opportunities and
engagements to express this passion through her singing, dancing, acting,
directing, choreographing, and teaching. Kathy has performed with her
musical family early in her musical career as well as headlined in her own
one-woman show in Waikiki. She has numerous credits as a performer and
director in theatrical productions, television, motion pictures, and live church
and school productions. She is currently serving the children of Hawaii as
an educator working with students with special needs (Kapolei Elementary) ,
serving in her local church (Christ Church At Kapolei) as the Worship Ministry
leader and Drama Ministry Director and serving on missions team as part of the
Paradise Global Missions outreaches into other countries. She along with
her husband Keoki performs at the Marriott’s Ko’olina Beach Club Resort and they
enjoy raising their three children, two dogs, two birds and fish.
Keoki (George) Hirai is a Kona boy and was a star
athlete in football and track at Konawaena HighSchool in Kealakekua, Kona.
He carried a passion for music at an early age but did not blossom until
recently. Keoki also comes from a family with an interest in musical
expression. His father Clifford Hirai played the upright bass, his aunties
were popular Japanese Odori dancers and instructors in Hilo, and his siblings
are equally as talented as singers. He met Kathy while she was performing
at the Keauhou Beach Hotel with her top 40 disco band and after only three weeks
after meeting they eloped and were married. He began playing the bass and
guitar for the worship ministry in their early years of marriage and only
recently began to seriously pick up on the ukulele.
He is an associate at the Ko’olina Beach Club and
teaches ukulele to the guests. He is also on the music ministry team at
their church and provides the technical support for the theater productions.
